Our park sits in a beautiful setting once lived on by Shannon founder Samuel Shannon his wife Catherine and their children. The land was donated in a property exchange between Shannon family heirs and town officials

Tradition says that this land was purchased from Levi Colbert (Chief Itawamba) and Shannon built his home on the very site of Chief Itawamba wigwam in the sassafras grove here. It has also been told that Chief Itawamba would move down the hill where the ball fields are to escape the bitter winter winds. A replica of the log cabin sits to the right of where the original home place stood.

Our facility located at the corner of Noah Curtis and East Cherry Streets includes a covered pavilion, a quarter-mile walking track, three tennis courts, three ball fields one for T-Ball and two for softball and baseball, plus a paved basketball court ready available for year round use.
